Schoolyard Inspired

There's nothing more freeing than taking it back to those long gone days of the schoolyard.  And skirts with tennis shoes is the absolute best way to bring back that merry-go-round and jumping out of swings that's buried deep down in us all.

finding prints

Finding prints.  We all do this.  Some sachet through racks in the front swanky stores.  And there are some who push-shove through the overcrowded & used of our favorite thrifting spots, too.  We look.  In a way, we look for a bit more of us.  For the aesthetic representation of our insides outwardly to share with the world.

5 elements of a an eclectic outfit

I am hitting you today with 5 simple elements to bring you back to the beauty of being you in clothing. It is my hope that I catch you in the grocery with a perhaps a pair of striped leggings or, better yet, a pair of pink cowboy boots. Conforming will always be an ugly, nasty word to me.  Here's to eclectic and to joy. Inside & quite literally on your out.

profesh sesh

There's this part of me that remembers professional.  When sliding into an ensemble like you see above, it's like I'm smacking the cobwebs out of the corners of the public Monday-Friday portion of me.  Those silky strings are flingy.  And my sporadic energy swatting sends them swirling about.

criss-cross reminders
living through weaknesses to find your strengths

 In my clearest commotions, I know that handing over what I know I can handout will produce His best. Not just with style, but in style for the way I am made to move for Him.  That’s when I know that cloudy comes with clarity. That my weaknesses are reminders of where my strength lives.

This.

This up here is the result of Benedryl brought on by a leaky nose, one zillion projects on my plate, some overdue library books AT TWO DIFFERENT LIBRARIES, a house with groceries for just 3 days of the 7 day week, a public speaking engagement, 4 ball games, some practices, church, some behind-the-scenes planning, writing and completing my running for the week.

status.  Of being considered the in-crowd.  It's also important for me to note here that no one really longs for rejection either.  I am writer.  My words dwell within.  I move them without.  Without concern for who deems me best. Without certainty that they will be read.  Without a notion of angst that it's anything other than what I was meant to do.

And that?

That's how I know I'm a writer.

Shall I mention now that I see no reason to discriminate between prints and wearing them ALL TOGETHER or should I just let you make your own fashion deductions?  No, sweetie.  Don't adjust your screen.  It's not flashing at you.  That would be the dots on.my.legs and the not just horizontal or vertical BUT BOTH type of stripes combined on my torso WITH a hot-tastic splash of..wait for it...SHARPIE NEON YELLOW for a belt.

{cuffs & scallops}

Tick-tick-tick-tick-BOOM!  Cuffs, scallops & patent leather for the win.  Just so we're clear for all the newbies, I live, teach, create and write all out of my home.  Thus, my attire is anything Fergie-esque.  It's more of a Richard Simmons-meets-Nike middle aged mom vibe.

{all skate}

And there was ALL SKATE.  Love.me.some.all.skate.  I was never huge on sucking face or even holding hands with boys until well into my upper middle school years.  Nope.I frequented Starlite for joy.  For the stale, humid, trapped-inside cocktail of oxygen & carbon dioxide whipping through my side ponytail.  For the slippery tiled UNEVEN bathroom floors with NO DOORS on the stalls.  For the limbo competition.  And, of course, for ALL SKATE. Couples skate was B-O-R-I-N-G.

  And the outfit you see here is what I yanked together in the 10 minutes that I had to brush my teeth, shave my legs, wash my face, deodorize my underarms & slap some lipstick on.  Am I proud of it?  Well, kinda.  Let's forget the fact that my hair was like four days past the day that it shoulda been washed.  And let's look over the fact that my leg hairs coulda been french braided.

The $3.00 Salute

12 quarters.  I am wearing twelve George Washington circular discs from head-to-toe.  Spelunk underneath your couch cushions or in the floor board of your vehicle and I.am.there.people.  Not only am I there, but I'm there in name brand.  To this, I say God Bless America.
