The twirl. Ahh, it's that shifty underneath of me. It is more than what is needed in fabric. Layers of ruffles & ripples just jonesin' for more. For momentum. For movement. For life to inhabit their crinkles airborne & outward into freedom.
The image above has been me at four. At nine. At twelve. At twenty. Yes, even now at officially 19 days from 39. Like the parchment pages in my storybook, these ruffles write me more.
This dress was stuffed into a corner rack. Back & to the far right on the outside of an antique store aisle just down from where my boys where scouring the military memorabilia a single booth away. My eyes caught glimpse of a red, white & blue sea of insanity poking out into the aisle as I clamored on with an equal joy over WWII helmets and $5.00 vintage war rank patches. The crinoline called to me. It was my America. Meghan was scribbled all over those tattered chiffon edges. I needn't even see the top portion nor the size inside to know just whose dress this would become.
This day documented here in these images was absolutely ridiculous by way of the thermometer. #rightatfreezing And the glorious Tessa came to do what she so loves best: CAPTURE. There on a little country road amidst the glistening crystals & heavy burdened branches we call winter, I commenced my very own ice capades.
I remember my smile. I could not contain its enormity; my teeth were climbing in an out-of-bounds-ed-ness from my red lips. I remember my stillness too. It was non-existent. I am not quite certain how Miss Voccola procured anything outside of a blurry me as my focus was intentional with the twirl.
Like a school girl awaiting her turn on the swings, I fashioned my own time keeping there amongst the layers of ice & crinoline. I spun faster and faster. I moved without caution or consideration. Wind chill and bare leggedness were no where on my radar. Tessa, too, for that matter. The turnabout again & again was everything my America was after.
These collected images are my story. They are the one dimensional representation of my life. I am movement & energy. My life breathes out a screenplay script scribbled full of scenes fueled by nothing more than the devout passion to create and a holy hope to connect.
These ruffled edges are stained like time's tattoos. Worn well & often, this dress is my dance. Its torn edges are the emotions I wear so naturally on my outsides never thinking once that those feelings might belong just on the in. If I feel, you see.
My hands are always out of place from my sides for I can't keep them there. I am a reacher. An overzealous hand talker, too. The above image is so indicative of how I humanly feel. It's as if I really believe if I can stretch just far enough, there's a chance I can hold it all. Oh, how I want to. I want to hold her hand. Theirs & his too. I want to teach. To touch. To make. To be present and to be counted on.
My story is this dress. It's absolutely everything you see inside this red, white & blue sea of insanity. And this new website is just my old wooden dance floor where I plan to get down on it time & again.
Life. For me, it's in the twirl. It's in the time we take to dance. Slow & in sync or swift-like with shakes & sashays. My story is here for His rhythm to make its way in beautiful composition through me. For in Him, I have those layers of more than what is needed in fabric. And my crinoline just can't keep still.
Thank you for choosing to scuff out your beats here with me. Your readership and your custom design purchases are the evidence that dream dancing is worth it and that twirling? Well, it's something we were all born to do. I'm honored to have you here.
