Monday in a grocery basket.
Little brother's at a birthday party. Dad is chaperoning Maryville High School's prom. And, I'm on a dinner date with this handsome young man! #elig #tgif
Our 13 year old received braces today. When I got home from work, these were on the kitchen counter. I stopped short in my tracks upon seeing them. Thoughts that went though my mind: God made those crooked teeth. They were created in His timing and formed in my womb. Kenny and I have a child that we can help mold. We get the chance to shift his perspective or direction. We get the opportunity to invest in and inspire. And, here is a representation of that very gift in man-made plaster form on my kitchen counter. Parenting is really just that. Man-made plaster representations of a holy true form. Whenever parenting gets tight, I try to remember that I'm just shifting. I'm not the one in charge of the original masterpiece. #parenting #teeth #crooked #faith #elishasmamasteeth #genes #didyouknowmewheniwastwelve #ifsoyouwouldagree
A little Opie, Andy, & Aunt Bea with Daddy while older brother works on homework in the other room. Tuesday = no after school activities. It just so happens to be this family's favorite day of the week. ❤️#lifeisbiginthelittle

{borrowing}

December 20, 2014 in family, celebrations, blog series

borrowing Christmas decorations can serve as such a personal part a family's holiday.  Your home can boast of bells and berries and garland delightful. Or perhaps behold the most boisterous character of a fresh cut tree strung with nothing but piles of popcorn strung on thread. Handmade ornaments and dated ones too symbolize time & memory.  Year after year they're pulled out to pen a little more in this on-going chapter of your Christmas story.  Borrowing memories is, by far, one of the most beautiful details written in our Cobble Family Christmas.

santa top

This Santa star is made of chintzy tin.  Its edges are well worn too. Lightweight with a plastic St. Nick center, Kenny and I are honored to have him as the top to our Christmas tree.  It was Eli's first Christmas. The year was 2005.  And Kenny's Mom, Carlene, gifted us this star.  This was the tree topper that adorned her Christmas tree since she was born.

She knew how much Kenny loved this tree topper as a little boy for it hung on his family's tree each & every year.  And she knew how much he would love the opportunity to use this dearly loved decoration.

You can imagine the joy on Kenny' face as he opened this Christmas gift from his Mama.  Every year since that Christmas, we have used this tree topper.  Even though she gifted this well-loved tradition to our newly formed family, I like to say we've only borrowed it.

For this chintzy Santa star serves a source of memory.  And Kenny and I have just chosen to borrow the beautiful that has been Christmas built all those years ago.  Borrowed with the tradition to pen our own into our holiday book.

Tell me.  What holiday traditions have you borrowed and what's a wonderful being written in your family's Christmas story?
