Blue blazes. I think that's what they call the level of warmth upon us. With the summer solstice officially bouncing into business this Saturday, I think Glenn Frey says it best. The heat is on. And clothes are just.too.much. I mean fuhreal. I spend summer in my running tanks & shorts or a bathing suit near splashing children. That's as legally near-n-dear to my birthday suit as I can get. Yet, I'm freakish. Not akin to elfish. But equally as peculiar and all things whimsical. When summer nights approach, I get cold. Things get drafty and I just need some cover. This pretty much sums up all nights of ALL seasons. Truth. Don't get
me Kenny started on the year round temperature of my feet. Ice blocks, people.
So for today's Cheap Thrills Thursday installment, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite ensembles for a hot summer date night. It's light & quirky with some cute and some cover. I don't deliberate too long in my closet when it comes to styling.
My fashion manifesto:Go with your gut. Wear what you love. Wear what makes you happy.
I love mixing prints. It's the creamsicle of my existence, really. "Give me prints or give me death." Isn't that what Patrick Henry really meant? The shorts were a guhreat Goodwill find. $2.99 thankyouverymuch. The striped long sleeved tee WITH THE GLORIOUS TINY RUFFLE inset was $2.49 on clearance from Old Navy. The shoes are Nine West brand and feel like slippers on my feet. I nabbed these girls at a 2nd hand shoe store in Chattanooga for $12.99. Belt was a $.25 Goodwill pick-me-up. Heart sunglasses. Ahem. Sisters, don't hate. You, too, can be 38 years old and rock them. These were $5.00 with free shipping-ah-la-Amazon.com.
Now these girls. I drool just staring at them even now. I may have a teensy-eensy addiction. I love handmade earrings. I limit myself with splurges. But when I bought these for my best friend for a special wedding gift, I just had to gift myself a little momento too, you know? Mashugana is where I lost all dangling sparkle control for my Angie and myself. Her stuff is dreamy to the lobes. I.want.it.all.
Summer. Happy solstice, y'all. May your weekend celebrating its arrival involve some dangling sparkles, your birthday suit, some splashing children and some cover. I think I may have just given you the recipe for pro-creating. Either way, get your creamsicle on. Eek, I'm done here.
