Stitched in an overstated weighty emerald green threading, a "Ralph Lauren" tag greeted my thumb in a speedy shuffle. The rack was exploding with clothes one-to-one million too many and I was in hot pursuit. In a run down Goodwill tucked into a tiny dilapidated strip mall with only 20 minutes to spare, I laid claim to the bulk of my 2014 spring wardrobe. This Ralph Lauren circle skirt completely lined WITH pockets quickly became one of my victims without a second cock of the
There are stages to the hunt. Steps that procure you a little closer to fate for the find. I could write a book on this very art form. And one of the beginning chapters would be entitled "Find You". It's not "check the size" or "does it have holes". Nope. It's shuffle through the racks looking for yourself. And when you find it, grab it. The details of purchase come later. The belief in what you love comes first. Always first.
I kinda love that Goodwill hunting is very much like life. You don't move through your years checking to see what fits or how many faults it has until you really know what moves you from the inside out. The talents God has infused in you for His glory and the gifts you have in your personality and spirit are the nucleus to just exactly how this world measures up to you. Working on fit or declaring damage first only leaves you downtrodden and disappointed more often than not. Knowing your hopes and believing in the potential of what's out there finds you looking at life with a powerful perspective for a life fulfilled. I'll shuffle racks for that.
All clothing at Goodwill is marked with colored barbs. Each week the color barb changes for what is deemed 1/2 off. This skirt was an orange barb and it just so happened that it was mine for just $2.00 . Orange was the designated 1/2 off color the week I ram-shackled this overrun graveyard of Goodwill goodness.
Color! Lots of it. Pockets & and I can twirl it too. Never ever doubt I am always about 2 seconds from 7 years old at any given moment when it comes to skirts and high heels. So, she came home with me. Once washed and pressed because good-gah Ralph Lauren means business with a fully lined skirt. Let's forget the tiny fact that the tag said "dry clean only". Psshh. Ain't nobody got time for that. Get on in that washer, sister. I will press you out for a sweet $2.00 price. And only wash you like ONE TIME EVER AGAIN IN YOUR LIFE.
And then my wheels started to turn. I wanted to see how many different ways I could come up with wearing a rainbow. I came at it with 20 minutes on the timer to create at least 4 different looks. Below is the top 4 outfits that made the final cut per mine and my older son and might I add stellar photographer's opinion. Eli is always a decisive one when it comes to the final say. Casey, on the other hand, is all "maybe you should wear this necklace" or "what about that jacket". Eli is a minimalist with no time for the accessory.
I'd love to see which was your rainbow was your favorite. Feel free to vote below the looks.
All clothing in the above photographs were Goodwill purchases with the exception of the purple sweater. It was my Mom-Mommie's. The animal print infinity scarf was a gift from a Dirty Santa swap at church. Overall, I was surprised at the versatility that I was able to create from such color & print. I liked all looks and felt very comfortable in each rainbow representation. I tried to create ensembles that were for different social functions so not to look like I dress completely just to frequent the grocery store and the ball field. Um, because I don't. I go lots of places. I mean lots. Really. Church and the post office count, right?
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to practice my best twirls. Never fear. Remember, I'm 7. I always have my biker shorts on under my skirts. Documented here if you've forgotten. Ahh, lessons at the monkey bars are for life. And, if you're need a bit more evidence of versatility, by all means, go here. $1.00 can't do anymore good unless it's buying you a $.99 Wendy's Frosty. Got a thing for polka dots? I got you covered here too. Today's installment for Cheap Thrills Thursday has been fun. I'm a wee bit dizzy from all the spinning, but that's just how I like it. Now, it's your turn. Go find what makes you twirl!
See you next week!
